FireScout Gets an Overhaul

Welcome to another edition of the Quik Scout Technologies newsletter.   As we continue to add schools to the newsletter, we have a mixture of coaches who have been receiving the newsletters for a while as well as some who are getting their first letter.  So much has happened at Quik Scout over the last 30-45 days we don’t have the space to go into great detail.  We will, however, provide a high level overview and encourage you to contact Quik Scout, or your Quik Scout reseller, for more information.

This Month's Feature
This month we feature Tony Midea from Lahser High School in Michigan.  Coach Midea shares the role of 9th Grade Football Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Football Coach.  He shares with us how both levels of football are using the Fire Scout program.

Here at Lahser High School we have been using FireScout football on two levels.  We use it primarily on the varsity level where the program is used to break down the opponents offense and make clips based on key plays and formations reports are then generated for the coaching staff.  The queried clips are shown to our players as a tool to help them prepare for our opponents.

On the sub-varsity level we use FireScout for the purpose of educating the defensive coaches and how they might alter our defense towards our opponents.  This has given us the ability to educate our players to identify key formations and players within those formations.  It has eliminated much of the “guess work” in our game planning.  Without a doubt FireScout Football has made us a more efficient and better educated coaching staff.  It has saved us MANY hours in game preparation. I would not prepare or face and opponent without it.

Finally, It is our opinion that the reviewing of game film from a “player educated” perspective has enhanced our players abilities to recognize certain game situations. They are able to better identify key plays, players and formations.  FireScout is integral in helping us to make highlight clips for our players and coaches at the collegiate level.

This year with a combined three level record of 28-2 and two Michigan division three semifinal finishes in the last four years, FireScout has helped us attain a won-loss record that speaks for itself.

Quik Scout’s participation at Coaches Clinics:
Since mid-January, Quik Scout and its authorized resellers have been very active at a variety of coach’s clinics.   Either Quik Scout and authorized reseller Smart Ed Services has participated in the following clinics: WI State Coaches, PA State Coaches, OH State Coaches, MI State Coaches, Glazier Mega Clinics in Atlanta (2), Tampa, Destin, Charlotte, Dallas, Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati, Green Bay, University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia.  Thanks to those coaches who stopped by to take a look at FireScout Football and we look forward to supporting you in the future.

FireScout Football Gets Significant Upgrades:

Software developers at Quik Scout have been busy adding increased functionality and ease of use features to FireScout continuing our reputation of constant improvement.  Following is a snapshot of new capabilities added to FireScout Football since the first of the year:

  • Clipboard and Filmroom Modules: FireScout's new features allow coaches, teachers or presenters to bookmark specific time codes in game footage for later viewing eliminating the need to search for plays in when reviewing clips with players.  This is a tremendous teaching tool for showing players and coach’s favorite run/pass plays of upcoming opponents or reviewing specific situations from your previous game.  No more fast forward, pause, rewind searching for what you want to show.
  • Quik Capture Module: The Quik Capture Module is a huge time saver for coaches who are personally responsible for transferring game video to the computer and doing edits.  Quik Capture allows you to capture game footage directly to the hard drive of your computer during the game.  More importantly, basic editing can be performed at the same time by recording down, distance, yard line, gain and hash mark.  You have just saved yourself over 1 hour of work on Friday night and can now focus on breaking the tape down.  This feature also extends to importing your opponents tape by allowing you to edit play-by-play as you record to your hard drive from the VHS recorder.
  • Motion Analysis Module: The Motion Analysis Module allows you to compare two athletic movements, at very low frame rates, to break down and analyze technique.  This tool is great for kickers and quarterbacks to understand exactly where mechanical breakdowns could be occurring.  Additionally, Motion Analysis should be a staple in every weight room in America.  Not only does this analysis help athletes improve their lifting technique, it also is key in avoiding potential liability issues.  Every year in America schools are the subject of lawsuits claiming negligence in the weight room contributed to injury.  Getting weight lifting on video demonstrates commitment to teaching proper technique and provides proof to courts in the event it is required
  • That’s Not All: Additional changes have been made to improve ease of use and improved functionality.  If you’re not familiar with the new features listed above, please email Quik Scout at sales@quikscout.com to have someone call you.

FireScout Bundled Pricing Delivers Great Value:
In the past, the only way to purchase FireScout products was to purchase the entire suite of modules with either an Individual or Site License.  Beginning in March, Quik Scout removed price as a barrier for getting your team involved in video editing.  By breaking FireScout Football into modules, Quik Scout is able to offer a full blown video editing solution for under $800!  Additional modules can be added as budgets allow and as you develop a need for more capability.   Let us also be clear that the $795 version of FireScout is not a watered down toy that no one will really purchase!  It is a very capable video editing solution that can grow with your program as you require.  If you don’t believe us, give us a call at 800-251-4077 x347!
